Fukushima Nuclear Disaster ‘Worse than Chernobyl’

Soaring cancer rates in Japan and the US, devastated communities, a poisoned landscape, radioactive plants and animals.  After the 2011 magnitude 8.9 earthquake and resultant tsunami, the stricken Fukushima Daiichi Power Plant in North East Japan has suffered core meltdowns, leaked thousands of tonnes of radioactive water into the ground water of Japan and the Pacific Ocean, and a series of other calamities. The results have been devastating – and are only getting worse.
Cancers Soar Among First Responders and Locals
It was revealed this week that the number of U.S. sailors who say their health was devastated when they were  irradiated while delivering humanitarian help  near the stricken  Fukushima  Daichii nuclear plant is continuing to soar. Seventy one of those serving on the USS Ronald Reagan at the time of the meltdown now have cancer.
 As Op Ed news reports:
Within a day of Fukushima One’s March 11, 2011, melt-down, American “first responders” were drenched in radioactive fallout. In the midst of a driving snow storm, sailors reported a cloud of warm air with a metallic taste that poured over the Reagan. Then Reagan crew members were enveloped in a warm cloud. “Hey,” joked sailor Lindsay Cooper at the time. “It’s radioactive snow.”
Cooper spoke out to the US media ahead of a class action law suit that US first responders are brining against TEPCO, the Japanese energy firm responsible for the nuclear site:
“[But now], my thyroid is so out of whack that I can lose 60 to 70 pounds in one month and then gain it back the next. My menstrual cycle lasts for a six months at a time, and I cannot get pregnant. It’s ruined me.”
There has also been a surge in Thyroid cancers among young people around Fukushima.
An average of 1.7 people per 100,000 in the general population between the ages of 15 and 19 contracted Thyroid cancer in 2007.  This year, 12 per 100,000 people younger than 18 at the time of the disaster in Fukushima were diagnosed with the disease.
A Lost Region
TEPCO’s clean-up is estimated to take 40 years and cost £62bn.  This however is just the latest estimate –  just a year ago, the figures were 30 years and £50bn.  Worse, it is still the best case scenario.  The Japanese government has just admitted to the 160,000 evacuees of the 12 mile exclusion zone that they will likely never return home.
The disaster in March 2011 pumped 733,000 Curies of radioactive caesium into the Pacific, the largest discharge of radioactive material into the ocean in history.  Fifteen months later, 56% of all fish catches off japan were contaminated.  Since then, matters have steadily worsened.
Beaches surrounding the area have been closed and all fishing has stopped in this former fishing region. But concerns are that the contamination is being carried well beyond the exclusion zone, making it into the drinking water and food being consumed in Japan by rain water.  Radiation has been found in waters off Alaska and the West coast of the US, having spread over 2000 miles across the Pacific.
“The precise value of the abandoned cities, towns, agricultural lands, businesses, homes and property located within the roughly 310 sq miles (800 sq km) of the exclusion zones has not been established.  Estimates of the total economic loss range from $250[iv]-$500[v] billion US.  As for the human costs, in September 2012 Fukushima officials stated that 159,128 people had been evicted from the exclusion zones, losing their homes and virtually all their possessions. Most have received only a small compensation to cover their costs of living as evacuees.  Many are forced to make mortgage payments on the homes they left inside the exclusion zones. They have not been told that their homes will never again be habitable.”
The Japanese government have also been seeking to cover up the environmental impacts of the catastrophe by quietly slaughtering irradiated animals.  A plan blown apart by one determined Japanese farmer this week.  According to the New York Times:
Angered by what he considers the Japanese government’s attempts to sweep away the inconvenient truths of the Fukushima nuclear disaster, Masami Yoshizawa has moved back to his ranch in the radioactive no-man’s land surrounding the devastated plant. He has no neighbors, but plenty of company: hundreds of abandoned cows he has vowed to protect from the government’s kill order.
“These cows are living testimony to the human folly here in Fukushima,” said Mr. Yoshizawa, 59, a gruff but eloquent man with a history of protest against his government. “The government wants to kill them because it wants to erase what happened here, and lure Japan back to its pre-accident nuclear status quo. I am not going to let them.”

Japan’s Homeless

Last December, it was discovered that homeless Japanese men and women were being recruited to clean up the site of the disaster for minimum wage.
The Independent writes:
Japan’s most vulnerable citizens are being employed at minimum wage for one of the most undesirable jobs in the industrialised world.
One recruiter, Seiji Sasa, told the news agency that he scouts out potential labourers at Sendai Station in northern Japan and then sells them on to contractors for $100 (£60) a head.
“I don’t ask questions; that’s not my job,” 67-year-old Sasa said. “I just find people and send them to work. I send them and get money in exchange. That’s it. I don’t get involved in what happens after that.”
What is Going on at Fukushima?
F002
The Meltdown
On March 11th 2011, the worst happened. There are six reactors at the plant. Four in a row by the sea, and two slightly further back and higher. On March 11th, Reactor 4 had been defueled for planned maintenance, meaning the fuel was not in the containment area, but in the fuel pool. Reactors 5 and 6 were in cold shutdown for planned maintenance. Reactors 1- 3 were in normal operation. When the quake hit, emergency protocols were implemented and 1-3 shut down and emergency generators kicked in to maintain the cooling systems. However, 50 minutes later, the tsunami hit. A 13m wall of water crashed over the 10m high sea wall quickly the engulfing and crippling the low lying electricity generators, their diesel back-up and the cooling pumps themselves, all of which lay on the low land, right behind the sea wall, between the ocean and the reactors. This knocked out the power to the control room too. Between March 12th and 15th, as the reactors overheated and gases built up to dangerous levels, all four reactors suffered hydrogen-air explosions, which resulted in their outer casing being blown off, exposing their spent fuel pools to the elements.
If the fuel pools empty of water, there is nothing to keep the fuel rods cool and they will heat up, become unstable and ultimately explode, releasing their radioactive payload immediately into the atmosphere.
The Botched Response
Prior to the disaster of 2011, the basements of the reactors were kept free of groundwater (which would otherwise flood them daily) by evacuation pumps.  When power was cut off during the tsunami, these pumps were lost.  So, ever since, groundwater runs down from the higher land behind the reactors, through the basements and contaminated groundwater around the tanks, and, this newly highly contaminated water, then runs straight into the Pacific Ocean.
In efforts to refill the fuel pools and cool the plant, TEPCO workers poured thousands of tonnes of water onto the reactors.  This water then became radioactive and needed to be stored until it was decontaminated. TEPCO now has 1,000 tanks and other containers, holding 370,000 tonnes of highly contaminated water on site.  Around a third of these tanks are easy-to-assemble light steel, with rubber-sponge seals tightened with bolts. Workers have reported some have no lids and are simply covered with masking tape.
“We were in an emergency and just had to build as many tanks as quickly as possible, and their quality is at bare minimum,” said Teruaki Kobayashi, an official in charge of facility control for the plant operator, Tokyo Electric Power Co.
Unsurprisingly, these tanks have been leaking – with 9 publicised leakages in 2013 alone, contaminating the groundwater of the area.
Initially, TEPCO said that the groundwater radiation levels as a result were 100millisieverts/hr (within safe levels).  However, they were later forced to concede that the gauges they were using were not sufficient to provide a true reading.  When proper equipment was used, radioactivity levels in the groundwater were found to be 18 times higher than TEPCO had stated – at 2,200msv/hr.   The World Nuclear Organisation states:
1,000 mSv (1 sievert) in a short-term dose is about the threshold for causing immediate radiation sickness in a person of average physical attributes, but would be unlikely to cause death. Above 1000 mSv, severity of illness increases with dose.
“If doses greater than 1000 mSv occur over a long period they are unlikely to have health effects, but they may create some risk that cancer will develop many years later.”
Strontium-90 (a radioactive by product that is easily absorbed by the human body and causes bone cancer) has been found at 70 times higher than legal limits.
The tanks continue to leak.
Unfolding Crisis
The biggest crisis at Fukushima though are the impacts of three meltdowns in reactors 1-3, and the fate of the fuel pools.
In the case of reactor 4, the fuel pool is exposed to the elements, 18m in the air on a buckled and tilting structure. Inside this fuel pool is 400 tonnes of highly radioactive spent fuel. TEPCO need to remove more than 1,500 assemblies from the pool before it collapses.
Nuclear and fuel rod expert Arnie Gunderson uses an excellent metaphor to explain the issues.
“Now nuclear fuel is like cigarettes in a pack of cigarettes. If the pack is new, you can pull a cigarette out pretty easily. But if the pack is distorted and you pull too hard, you’ll snap the cigarette. Same thing can happen inside this fuel pool.”
According to independent consultants Mycle Schneider and Anthony Froggatt, writing in the recent World Nuclear Industry Status Report:
“Full release from the Unit-4 spent fuel pool, without any containment or control, could cause by far the most serious radiological disaster to date,”, releasing three times the radioactive material of the 1986 Chernobyl disaster, or 14,000 Hiroshimas.”
This piece of work is now underway.
It’s time for us to start focussing on what’s happening in Fukushima. It may seem a faraway matter, on another continent – but disaster at Fukushima could mean disaster for us all. If any of the reactors fully dispatch their toxic contents into the atmosphere, it is the end of Japan – and a global catastrophe. There is increasing global support behind a campaign for UN intervention in the Fukushima clean up – and surely it is time to gather the world’s best nuclear experts to deal with the world’s worst nuclear disaster.

Government, Media Cover Up Fukushima Radiation

Government, Media Cover Up Fukushima Radiation Wave Hitting US

As radiation levels spike and mutated wildlife washes ashore, government and media promote delusion.

Radiation hot spots are popping up around the United States thousands of percentages higher than ‘background radiation’, mutated wildlife is being found dead on the same West Coast beaches where increased radiation levels have been documented by independent researchers and the Fukushima TEPCO plant workers have been caught using duct tape to fix their nuclear equipment. But according to both the Japanese and United States governments, these events mean absolutely nothing.
In fact, you must be a conspiracy theorist if you fail to believe the official story that it was likely red-painted utensils that led to a spike in documented radiation levels along the California coast (yes, the government actually offered this up as an official answer). And you must absolutely be a conspiracy theorist if you have the gall to actually look back to late 2011, when researchers presented their findings regarding the impending wave of Fukushima radiation that was already being recorded within the country.
Information going back to 2011 shows that scientists were already concerned about an increase in radiation levels and the overall fallout from the delapidated Fukushima plant. We can even go back to the declaration by scientist Marco Kaltofen of the Worcester Polytechnic Institute that radioactive ‘hot particles’ had been found at 2 out of the 3 radiation monitoring stations in Boston. As you are likely aware, hot particles are microscopic pieces of radioactive material that can absolutely wreak havoc on your body via the deliverance of concentrated radiation.
And these particles, according to Kaltofen, were already being found in Boston as far back as 2011.
Now enter a new flurry of stories that have seemingly been popping up one after another as radiation levels are continually being monitored around the nation — namely the West Coast, where the bulk of Fukushima-linked scenarios have been documented. In what sounds like an apocalyptic plot for the latest thriller film, we have mutated whales now washing up dead on the West Coast in the first ever documented case of conjoined gray whale calves. We even have elevated radiation readings as far away as St. Louis, Missouri.
Coincidentily, of course, this is happening at the same time that radiation hot spots exceeding a 1,400% increase over ‘normal’ levels are being reported by researchers. It’s even happening at the same time that similar 500% increases have been disregarded by government officials who admit they have no idea what’s going on but fervently deny any connection to Fukushima in any capacity whatsoever. In fact, that has always been the mantra of these government health officials: We have no idea what’s really going on, but it’s definitely not Fukushima!
Because just as the Japanese government has assured its citizens that Fukushima is perfectly safe and poses no real threat to your health while secretly reviewing studies that reveal the plant released massively more radiation than admitted and led to 78% of the radioactive waste being dumped into the Pacific Ocean, the United States government would much rather silently purchase 14 million doses of potassium iodide than tell you that there may be some cause for concern.
The very core of the Fukushima disaster timeline that has been regurgitated by the mainstream media and government agencies alike was almost exclusively based on information provided by plant operator TEPCO — a company that is now on record as having lied to the population of the world in a major way. And there were no signs they would ever tell the truth unless forced to. It wasn’t until an independent investigation revealed the actual levels of radiation released from the plant (around 2 1/2 times more than TEPCO would even admit) that TEPCO was forced to go on record and state that the radiation levels they released were indeed much lower than reality.
However, the independent investigation into Fukushima radiation levels not only exposed the lies by TEPCO regarding the radiation explosion at the plant, but it also found that around 78% of the caesium-137 released by the plant was funneling into the Pacific Ocean. The plant now states that the three reactor meltdowns at the Fukushima Daiichi plant released about 900,000 terabecquerels of radioactive substances. About 20% fell on Japanese land, 2% somewhere on land outside the country, and a whopping 78% remainder is believed to have entered the Pacific Ocean.
At the very least, the Japanese and United States governments should be preparing citizens for what scientists said could last ‘thousands of years’: the Fukushima nightmare. And that begins with admitting that the threat is real. Because unless we really prepare ourselves and work together as a planet to truly fix the Fukushima plant and ensure that the 1,4000+ rods do not cause yet another massive meltdown (as experts say they likely will during transfer), we really will be facing a radioactive nightmare of epic proportions.

RAD: US Military’s Population Abatement and Mitigation Program

 |

Fighter Pilot Len Dietz Sets the Killing Rad Number

From P51 D Mustangs to Uranium Molecules

(San Francisco) – In June, 1945 Len Dietz was flying his P51 D Mustang escorting hundreds of the big B-29 Stratofortress bombers on bombing runs over Japan from Iwo Jima in the South Pacific.

Later on that summer, August 6th, 1945, a single B-29 Stratofortress named after the pilot’s mother, Enola Gay, flew over Hiroshima, Japan and announced the birth of the Atomic Age.
Called the “Gadget” by its builders, the single 10,000 lb, 4,545kg Atomic Bomb, the equivalent of about 30 million pounds of TNT, or 120,000 two hundred and fifty pound bombs, forever changed the Lethality Index of Weapons of War.  Forevermore, bombs were more bizarre and vastly more lethal.
The single bomb riveted the attention of generals and cheap, opportunistic  politicians everywhere. They immediately lusted after what became known simply as “The Bomb.” The Hiroshima Bomb, named “Little Boy” after the diminutive US President Harry Truman vaporized, burned or otherwise killed an estimated 140,000 Japanese citizens at once that day.

Millions more die from the weaponized Uranium gas bomb with a very small Uranium 235 nuclear core dispersion device in the ensuing decades. Today in March, 2011 forty countries possess the starting point for a nuclear weapon – a nuclear reactor. Only time will tell how many make the final run for “The Bomb.”
There is no other reason to have a reactor other that to make nuclear bombs. The reactors are dirty and they all leak radiation, all the time. Former General, then President Eisenhower’s “Too Cheap to Meter” lie about nuclear electricity is a cruel military mind game played on civilians.
To this day, “Little Boy” in conjunction with the Nagasaki “Fat Man” Atomic Bomb, named for the Prime Minister of England, Winston Churchill, dooms the Japanese nation to a long, drawn out extinction at the feet of the new rulers of the world: the Americans. A new world Empire was born in nuclear devastation and Genocide. No escape is possible. The poisonous radioactive molecules from The Bomb are in the Japanese’ DNA.
Nuclear weapons are the Empire’s great, lasting and only strength. 2,045 nuclear detonations later by “nuclear powers” and humans are still “ethical infants” [2] ruled predominantly by Grade A, Top Dog Psychopaths and their truly sick enablers, like those at the two nuclear weapons labs in the Garrison City of the San Francisco Bay Area.
Fighter Pilot Len Dietz along with about 13,000,000 other living and, more or less  whole, WWII Vets made it back to the States. Dietz became a famous Physicist. He worked for GE, the “We Bring Good Things To Life” people  at the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, in NY for 28 years. He had a good life and was a Boy Scout leader while his kids were in Scouting.
While Dietz flew guard duty for B-29s, John Gofman helped build “the Gadgets” as one of a couple of hundred thousand Americans working on the Manhattan Project. “The Gadgets,” were the atomic bombs. Gofman was also a brilliant cardiologist and invented the “Stent” for surgical procedures.
Many of you readers may benefit from the surgical implant device or know someone who has. You have John Gofman, former Medical Director at the Livermore Nuclear Weapons Lab to thank for it. It’s a small world, isn’t it?

Dietz and Gofman thought war fighters ought to know how much of the killing radioactivity is in every tiny particle of DU, or uranium oxide. If war fighters are going to be around uranium oxide shells, missiles and bombs they have every right to know how truly deadly it is.
So, they got together and figured it out. For them it was easy. The math is all set out in a paper listed below.[3] They make it look deceptively easy because they understood the Physics so well. You are all welcome to work out the math for yourselves. Go ahead, be my guest!

A Single DU Particle Radiation Dose

When a Grunt gets zapped with a single DU particle, it is 34 times what a radiation worker in the States is permitted (to get)per year[1] A single DU particle is 100 times the radiation an adult male US civilian is allowed per year. A single DU particle destroys a war fighter’s health; eats his/her brain, and finally kills that war fighter. Simple as that.
Fighter Pilot Len Dietz and Dr. John Gofman combined their long experience in the US nuclear programs to calculate the Radiation Dose from a single DU Particle.
That is only one particle. The US Military let loose 2.5 billion doses in 20 years, enough to kill 2.5 billion people in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other countries in Central and Western Asia, aka, the Middle East.

The dosing has not stopped. The dosing is measured regularly and maintained with more Rad bombs, shells and missiles. The annual Monsoons efficiently irradiate Iran, caught between the Iraq and Afghanistan nuclear wars, then spread the Rad throughout the world in days.
No one, anywhere in the world, is immune or untouchable. Everyone is hostage to what amounts to the US Military’s Involuntary Population Abatement and Mitigation Program. There is no other way to characterize the voluntary use of that much uranium oxide when far better, more advanced weapons are readily available.
You do the math; the air is thick with the radioactive and poisonous particles that go through the war fighter’s skin. American War Fighters breathe 17 times a minute on average and move their whole body through contaminated, radioactive air. No one can avoid one radioactive particle while in theater with boots on the ground. If you are or were there – you got zapped.
The SOB in charge of lying to US War Fighters about uranium oxide ammo is Col Michael “Mikey” Kilpatrick. He even tells his Psy Ops team to say that uranium is safe enough to put on breakfast cereals. Mikey is a real piece of work; another psycho desk jockey in the Pentagon who gets off on killing grunts.
NA P-51 takes off from Iwo Jima

All the uranium lies come from Mikey and his crew. Too bad the 9/11 missile hit the accountants looking for Rumfield’s “lost $2.5 Trillion
Dollars” and not Mikey’s big shop of lies.
That’s the long and short of it from Fighter Pilot Len Dietz and famous nuke doctor John Gofman – One Tiny Particle is 34 Times what a nuke worker is allowed to get per year. Dr Gofman adds that one Rad Ray through one cell will give you cancer. Tell Mikey’s lyin’ SOBs in the Pentagon to put it where the sun don’t shine.
Why do we put up with these lies from Mikey’s crew and use this ammo? This stuff is killing us all! A Norwegian squad was Ordered to relieve Americans in a shot up train station. Their NBC Officer took a Rad Reading and they REFUSED because it was Radioactive. They set up a bivouac in the desert. Are the Norwegians the only soldiers with any sense? Let’s shape up and run this army right. NBC Officers – do your jobs!
